It was perhaps inevitable: fraud has hit the blockbuster Helldivers 2, due out in early 2024.

Players have reported a variety of cheats and exploits for Arrowhead’s explosive co-op-focused third-person shooter. Hacks are adding unlimited ammo, increasing speed, and even allowing players to trigger ‘God Mode’. Meanwhile, an infinite strategy glitch is creating even more chaos on the battlefield.

Some players have even ended up playing in a group with cheaters who have been able to obtain hundreds of samples from missions. Specimens are one of the key currencies in Helldivers 2 progression, with some only found on harder difficulties. They are used to purchase ship module upgrades, which are powerful passive buffs that can significantly increase the player’s effectiveness. Acquiring samples is a big part of the Helldivers 2 grind, and under normal circumstances it will take players a long time to unlock all ship modules.

A player who was in a group with a cheater wondered whether their progress could be rolled back before playing a match in which they had obtained a large number of samples (the samples obtained are distributed to players within the group upon completion of a mission objective. are shared between). This sample cheat appears to be on the rise based on reports from players in the Helldivers 2 community.

“Scammers ruined my experience,” Redditor ForeverDesperate5855 said in another post. “Feels a bit weird but they can do whatever they want with their game and suffer the consequences, it’s a bit upsetting that I even got those samples and 80% of the work was wasted.”

Arrowhead will be keen to tackle the issue of cheating given the way it is affecting some legitimate players who are unlucky enough to find themselves in a pickup group with a cheater. For now, the community is advising those affected to drop Arrowhead a line to ask for a rollback.

Of course, it’s a busy time for Arrowhead. It recently declared the weekend a success, insisting that Helldivers 2’s servers handled all players “without any issues”. Arrowhead is now ready to think about improving the game in other, non-server issue ways, and says it is now time to “recommend our original plan”. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 players are debating the rights and wrongs of kicking their teammates. Not bringing ‘Meta’ build to the party.

Until then, the fight against bugs and robots will continue. If you’re playing, be sure to check out IGN’s extensive helldivers 2 guide,
